Seven strains of viable Bacillus and Lactobacillus bacteria make an effective pro-biotic that can be easily incorporated into your supplementation program. One of our seven microbes, Lactobacilluls Plantarum will synthesize Lysine in the gut of the horse.

Why Horses in the Southwest Have Different Mineral Needs

Do you know where your hay is grown? The Southwestern part of the Country is quite dry and arid and typically has unique soil composition which will be represented in the forage grown in these areas.

Copper, zinc and phosphorus levels will generally be lower in forages grown in Southwestern soils. These soils are high in calcium and manganese, which will also be represented in any forage grown in these soils.

In an effort to be more specific in addressing the nutritional needs of horses in the Southwestern parts of the United States, (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Utah) we offer a Southwest Grass Ration Balancer for forages grown in these areas of the United States.

Southwest Grass vs. Original Grass Formula

The only changes to Equine Challenge ™ Southwest Ration Balancer Grass are to the levels of copper, zinc, phosphorous, calcium, manganese and Vit. D. Other than that, Equine Challenge™ Southwest Ration Balancer/Vitamins & Minerals contains all the original Vitamins, Minerals and Probiotics that your horses are currently getting now.

We have significantly raised the levels of ZinPro Amino Acid complexes in both copper and zinc in their synergistic balance to compliment the soils of the southwest.

Given the high level of natural manganese in the Southwest, there is no ADDED manganese in our Southwest Grass Ration Balancer.

Per 4 oz. dose

  • Zinc 360 mg.
  • Vit. D 1,000 IU
  • Copper 125 mg.
  • Calcium 0 Added
  • Phosphorus 2,000 mg
  • Manganese 0 Added

The calcium phosphorus ratio is very important in maintaining metabolic balance in the horse. Given the higher levels of calcium that exist in the typically dry and arid areas of the southwest, Equine Challenge™ Southwest Ration Balancer Alfalfa and Equine Challenge Southwest Ration Balancer Grass will not have any ADDED calcium. Additional phosphorus in the Equine Challenge Southwest Ration Balancer Alfalfa has been added. The phosphorus levels remain the same in the Equine Challenge Southwest Ration Balancer Grass to help in balancing the higher natural calcium level in the Southwest.
