There are areas in the Western United States where the selenium rich soils exist or the irrigation water sources are selenium rich. One such source is the water from the Green River Valley in Utah which feeds into the Colorado River and reaches the Imperial Valley and Coachella Valley, very productive agricultural regions. Some parts of the San Joaquin Valley and the Barstow/Mojave areas suffer from these same problems where selenium is concerned.
In time, regions such as these have increasingly high selenium soil levels. Although selenium is an important trace element, if high levels of selenium are ingested it may reach toxic levels, leading to health problems even death.
The Dakotas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montanta and Nebraska tend to have higher selenium concentrations and the eastern United States tend to have lower selenium levels with Ohio having the lowest selenium levels in the nation.
What To Expect: Many horse owners report a shiny, healthy coat in their horse after just a few weeks of starting on Equine Challenge Vitamins & Minerals. Healthy hoof growth as well as mane and tail growth is also very common. You may notice a positive change in your horse’s disposition as they become metabolically balanced. All horses respond differently depending on their metabolic needs so you will see some show improvement quickly while others show a more gradual change over time.
